Roots & Wings is IPFF’s mentoring program. We train everyday people to become safe, capable mentors and then connect them to organisations seeking support for young people.
Mentors complete a paid training program and meet basic screening requirements. From there, they’re ready to volunteer where they’re needed most.

We train volunteers to mentor with confidence covering communication, boundaries, safeguarding, and the fundamentals of supporting young people.

After training, mentors can be matched with schools and community organisations seeking extra capacity. Supporting young people through consistent guidance and relationship-building.

Roots & Wings mentors can access structured guidance and support tools so when challenges arise, they have a pathway for what to do next.
Complete a short application and confirm basic screening requirements (e.g., Working With Children Check or equivalent).
Mentors complete a paid training program designed by IPFF to prepare them for real-world mentoring.
Mentors are connected to schools and organisations and begin mentoring with clear expectations and ongoing support.

When young people have access to consistent, well-prepared mentors, they gain stability, confidence, and clearer pathways forward.
Roots & Wings builds that capacity by training volunteers at scale so communities can respond faster, with higher quality support.
